On July 3, 2026, a traffic collision occurred on the right shoulder of Interstate 5 South at Western Avenue involving a silver Kia Optima and a red truck. There were no reported injuries. One involved party had to climb through a vehicle window due to malfunctioning doors. Two tow trucks were requested for the recovery of the the Kia sedan and the Ford F35 truck.
