On June 21, 2026, at approximately 4:27 PM, a hit and run incident occurred at State Route 49 and Smith Road. A vehicle hit the center median twice before continuing on, eventually pulling over to the right shoulder. After a brief period, the vehicle turned and headed northbound. The Nevada County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) reported that the reporting party confronted the driver. The incident was later reclassified from reckless driving to a hit and run with no injuries reported.
