On July 2, 2026, at approximately 11:04 PM, a two-vehicle traffic collision occurred on northbound Interstate 5 near Basilone, involving a black sedan and a light-colored sedan. Both vehicles ended up in the center divide. A Good Samaritan in a black Honda sedan pulled over on the right shoulder to assist. It was reported that one vehicle was smoking and a Good Samaritan pulled a person from the vehicle. An ambulance was dispatched to the scene. A white Nissan sedan and a red Honda Civic were towed from the site.
